Robotics starting at St. Joseph Catholic School

We, the St. Joseph Catholic School faculty and staff, are proud to partner with the Marshall University College of Information Technology and Engineering / Weisberg Division of Computer Science to participate in the VEX Robotics Competition for grades four through eight. Professor and Chair, Dr. Wook-Sung Yoo has granted us an incredible opportunity to work side by side with their department and their undergraduate students in a technological collaborative learning experience.
Unlike the clubs and other extracurriculars that St. Joe has to offer, this will be a competitive team. Students will need to be fully committed to after school practices and any competitions (regional, state, and national) that will be scheduled. Travel for competitions may need to occur, so again commitment is crucial to our team’s success. Spots are limited. There will only be so many placements allotted per grade level. The cost to participate will be based on our student response. Team practice will take place on Tuesday from 3:30-5:30 in St. Joseph’s XSTREAM Center and Saturday’s as needed.

Teams will consist of the following teams;
2x 4th-6th Grade St. Joe Teams
2x 7th-12th Grade St. Joe Teams

We look forward to working with those interested! This truly is an amazing opportunity for our community, our school, and most importantly, our students. Thank you for all of your support and dedication towards making our school the best it can be.

What is VEX Robotics?

In the VEX IQ Challenge, presented by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation, teams of students are tasked with designing and building a robot to play with other teams in a game-based engineering challenge. Classroom STEM concepts are put to the test as students learn lifelong skills in teamwork, leadership, communications, and more. Tournaments are held year-round at the regional, state, and national levels and culminate at the VEX Robotics World Championship each April!
